Plain Khichdi

Plain Khichdi, Ultimate comfort food simply made with mix of rice and lentil along with very salt and turmeric.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Tuvar Dal split pigeon peas
  • ½ cup Jasmin Rice or Basmati Rice
  • 2 cup Water
  • ¼ tsp Asafetida (Hing Powder)
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 large Garlic Cloves, sliced
  • tsp Fenugreek Seeds
  • ¼ inch Grated Ginger
  • 3 tbsp Ghee

Instructions

  • Place rice and dal in Instant pot. Wash it very well and let it soak for 15-20 minutes.
  • Discard all the water from IP, then add in 2 cups of water and rest of the ingredients listed above.
  • Put IP on saute mode, bring the water to simmer. Then close the lid, seal the valve. Set IP on high pressure for 5 minutes.
  • Once cook time is over, let pressure release naturally for 10 minutes and release rest of the pressure manually.
  • Once IP valve is release, open the lid and enjoy pipping hot Khichdi with lots of ghee and my world famous Gujarati Kadhi!
