Jalapeno Cheddar Protein Bagels

Current TikTok sensation, protein bagel but make it cheesy spicy jalapeno and cheddar goodie with greek yogurt jalapeno salsa smear.

If you have had Einstein bagels’ Jalapeno Cheddar Bagels with their jalapeno salsa smear. You know it is hands down one of the best bagel cream cheese combo of all time. It is my absolute favorite. I do treat myself once in a while with that goodie. However this new lifestyle that I have been trying to commit to calls of well balanced high protein meals, especially the breakfast.

Now that TikTok has been flooded with these 2 ingredient high protein bagels, I had to give them a try.  But make it as close to Einstein bagels’ Jalapeno Cheddar Bagels with their jalapeno salsa smear. I will not false claim and say it is an exact replica as my version is a healthier version of EB. But it is pretty darn close to it.

I took an inspiration from TikTok viral high protein recipe (thanks to whoever came up with it!) and tweak it to my own liking. These Jalapeno Cheddar Protein Bagels turned out amazing for being high protein healthy version. And I am sure to make it on regular basis. I love pairing it greek yogurt jalapeno salsa (recipe in the notes below). And I also like to use them to make fried egg sandwich using plain cream cheese and Italian Bomba sauce from Trader Joe’s. Both ways it is adding that touch of extra protein.

Jalapeno Cheddar Protein Bagels

Ingredients

  • 2 cup King Arthur Unbleached Bread Flour, loosely packed 240 grams
  • 16 oz Fage Fat Free Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 large Fresh Jalapeno, finely diced
  • â…“ cup Pickled Jalapeno, finely diced
  • 4 oz Sharp Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Egg optional

Instructions

  • Mix flour with salt, baking powder and baking soda.
  • Mix flour and greek yogurt until the dough is still crumbly, not fully combined.
  • Mix together finely diced fresh jalapeno and pickled jalapeno. Split the mix in â…” and â…“ parts. Add â…” part into the flour/greek yogurt mix and keep â…“ part aside for topping.
  • Split shredded cheddar cheese in â…” part and â…“ part. Add â…” part cheddar in the dough, keep â…“ part aside for topping.
  • Start binding the dough until everything starts to combine and just about to get sticky.
  • Dust some dry flour on a flat surface, place dough on top of the flour and kneed few times.
  • Split the dough in 8 equal parts. Rub some oil on your palm and form a smoothish dough ball. Place a hole in the middle to form bagel shape.
  • Place parchment paper on a big baking tray, spray some cooking spray on parchment paper. Place all 8 bagels on it with some space in between as it will rise.
  • Top each bagel with remaining â…“ part of remaining jalapenos and â…“ part of remaining cheddar cheese.
  • Bake it on 375℉ for 20-25 minutes. Once baked, place them on cooling rack or just let them sit on the baking tray outside the oven to cool them down for at least 15 minutes.
  • Enjoy it with choice of cream cheese, my greek yogurt jalapeno salsa smear pairs really well with these bagel. I also like to make fried egg sandwiches using these bagel using some plain cream cheese and Italian bomba sauce.

Notes

Greek Yogurt Jalapeno Salsa Smear
16 oz fage fat free greek yogurt (hung for 4-5 hours)
1/2 cup Picante sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 fresh jalapeno (finely chopped)
1/4 cup pickled jalapeno (finely chopped)
Mix all the above and refrigerate it for 30 minutes before using.
